Current Mission - South Africa - Global Advocacy

This Summer leading into the Fall, our Founder Chantel, has the opportunity to bring about change through policy research related to gender-based violence, human rights, and justice through advocacy and empowering vulnerable communities toward restoration, with the hopes that the research can be used to provide lasting change in this nation and in those connected to bring about a revolution of change in communities across Africa.

Gender-based violence impacts an estimated 1 in 3 women worldwide, leaving countless individuals and communities affected by violence, injustice, and systemic barriers to protection. Through this internship, Chantel will engage in research, policy analysis, and cross-cultural learning alongside professionals committed to strengthening legal frameworks and community responses. The experience is designed to deepen her understanding of how thoughtful policy, evidence-based research, and collaborative leadership can contribute to protecting vulnerable populations and promoting lasting change. As well as build powerful relationships with locals and other government agencies and organizations to promote gender equality, justice, and restoration.

Cabo Verde

Last Summer we flew over two continents, across oceans, in Taxi Vans, down dirt paths, into the villages of a beautiful community on 1 of the 6 islands of Cabo Verde. The hunger was palpable, not for food, but for hope, for joy, the kind that tells you there is more to life. Chantel, along with Flavia, walked by foot carrying what they needed for the day with their packs on their back sometimes from house to house, other times just to gather with children in the streets, and at other times invited to organizations. Out of all the many times hope was shared, the one that sticks out most is a reminder that you don’t need much to bring the radical hope we all desire. We didn’t need a building or a plan; we needed to be open, and we did what we do: bring art into places to unlock the freedom and gold found deep inside each of us. We pulled out banners from our bag, and picked music from the phone adn we danced in the streets. A rainbow of colors swirled through the air as more and more children came. It was tangible, from hunger to hope. From despair into dreams. The old men came to sit, and of course, soon we were all dreaming. Writing out or drawing our dreams on pieces of papers making paper airplanes, and on the count of three, we launched those airplanes. Much like life, some take flight high in the sky, some make loops, or do tricks, some don’t go as far, but they all go. Sometimes, that’s all we need is a reminder or someone to put the wind beneath our wings. SO we danced, we sang, we walked together, all of us. I cannot wait to see where these dreams go. Hope is alive and well. ✨
